India is one of the success stories of the CDM, with 32.83% of all registered CDM project activities and 14.7% of CERs from registered projects (source: UNFCCC). India’s dependence on fossil fuels creates high carbon intensity, providing industry with an excellent opportunity to generate large volumes of carbon credits from energy efficiency and clean energy projects.
The second annual Carbon Markets India will provide an excellent platform for representatives from Indian industry to learn about CDM business opportunities and do business with buyers of Certified Emissions Reductions (CER’s).
Event Objectives
- To provide a platform for industry to learn about CDM business opportunities in India
- To discuss strategies to reduce GHG emissions whilst increasing economic growth
- To create a networking platform for CER buyers and sellers
- To showcase best practice CDM projects
- To accelerate carbon market development in India
Event History
The inaugural Carbon Markets India conference was a huge success, bringing together 165 leading Indian industrialists and climate change experts to address the business opportunities for CDM in India. The event was run with the support of the Confederation of Indian Industry.
32% of the audience were Indian project hosts in 2007
Amongst those companies present were high level executives from Essar Group, Hindustan Zinc, Reliance Industries Limited, Dempo Group, Jubilant, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, Grasim Industries, Nucon Energy Group, Asian Paints, Eastman Exports, IHS Energy, Suntraco, Torrent Power, Metro Entertainment, Sasol Synfuels, Shree Renuka Sugars, Indian Sucrose, Senergy Global, Priyadarshini Polysacks and Siemens.
